Analysis of disaster mechanism of flood and dam break in Michigan,US and its enlightenment to disaster risk prevention in China

  • The dam functions as a water conservancy and hydropower engineering facility, its safety is very important to the production and living of the upstream, downstream and surrounding areas. Excluding human factors such as terrorist attacks, dams face various disaster risks. such as meteorological disasters, earthquake and geological disasters. “The period in late July and early August” has always been the main flood season in the north and south of China. Preventing the dam’s single, compound and chain disaster risk caused by heavy rainfall and its secondary disasters such as landslide, debris flow and barrier lake, etc. is an urgent task. The emergency management system for flood and dams in the US was established earlier. The Michigan flood and dam break occurred during the severe COVID-19 pandemic in the US. It exposed many problems and are worth sorting out and studying. It has good enlightenment to reduce the disaster risk of dams under the current normalization of COVID-19 epidemic prevention situation in China.
