Application of sPL phase in focal depth determination of small and moderate earthquakes in the Jiangxi region

  • In this paper, we collected 31 earthquake events(ML≥3.0)recorded on Jiangxi Seismic Network Observation Report from October 2007 to July 2018. According to the characteristics of depth phase sPL, the sPL phase analyses for these earthquakes are conducted. The reliable focal depth of 15 earthquakes can be achieved through depth phase sPL analysis. Focal depth calculated by sPL phase are compared with results obtained with other methods, such as simple type, LocSAT and Hyposat. The results show that the measured near-field earthquake depth is more accurate using sPL phase.
