Study on the relationship between shear wave velocity and depthof silty clay in Shandong Province

  • Silty clay is widely distributed in Shandong Province, and the study of the relationship between shear wave velocity and depth of silty clay is helpful to guide practice. According to the characteristics of engineering geology in Shandong, this paper divides Shandong into three statistical units as Western Shandong, Central-Southern Shandong and Eastern Shandong. The shear wave velocity and depth data of silty clay of each unit are counted. Regression analysis is performed on silty clay’s shear wave velocity and depth data using 4 kinds of regression model, and the fitting effect of each model is compared. The research shows that shear wave velocity of silty clay is obviously related to the depth in Shandong Province and the regression model based on power function( v_\rm si = ah_i^b + c )has the best fitting effect. It can well fit the variation of shear wave velocity with depth of type Ⅱ site or type Ⅲ site, and has good goodness of fit. Based on this model, this paper obtains shear wave velocity-depth empirical formulas and root mean square errors of silty clay in Western Shandong, Central-Southern Shandong and Eastern Shandong. The empirical formulas can be used in practice when lack of shear wave velocity.
