Modern:New ideas for a new era

  • Monitoring and prediction, seismic prevention, and emergency relief are three basic earthquake countermeasures in the new era. New scientific concepts and technologies are being introduced in response to the rapid urbanization and aging of society. After a century of exploration in earthquake prediction, an international consensus has been reached on the uncertainty of seismic activity, and probabilistic prediction is the direction for future development. The concept of building resilient cities has become universally recognized. Considering the Xiongan New Area as an example, this study posits that construction in this area also requires consideration of the risk of induced earthquakes and soil liquefaction, in conjunction with the increase in seismic activity in North China. Studies have been published on earthquake casualties associated with emergency relief. Earthquake response in an aging society is a new topic, and this study explains the three crucial aspects of earthquake knowledge; that is, vulnerable sections of buildings, earthquake analysis, and risk avoidance for the elderly.
