The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program:Issues in brief

  • The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) is a national program to improve the seismic safety of urban buildings and lifeline projects. The Congressional Research Service (CRS) released a report entitled “The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP): Issues in brief” on December 21, 2021. The report reviews the development of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) since it was implemented by the U.S. Congress in 1997, and the main problems that Congress faces in continuing it. This paper introduces the main contents of the report, provides policy reference for timely understanding of earthquake disaster reduction in the United States, and has important reference value for earthquake industry and related disaster reduction research.
