Abstract: We consulted a variety of ancient books, analyzed and collected historical data of the subsided earthquakes of China before 1949 A.D. Five identification principles for historical collapse earthquakes were put forward. We proposed the principles and technical methods for comprehensive evaluation of basic parameters and epicentral intensity of the collapse earthquakes. 54 historical collapse earthquakes catalogues were compiled and spatial along with temporal characteristics of historical collapse earthquake activities were preliminarily analyzed.
