Abstract:
Western Xia is a vibrant and mysterious dynasty whose rise and fall has been accompanied by seismic activity. Because the Gansu-Ningxia region happens to be a high seismicity area, and I would like to take this opportunity to talk about the seismic activity here. For the doubts about the 996 AD earthquake event, a preliminary discussion was made based on the intensity of small earthquakes, historical records, geological trenching, and the intensity of earthquakes. The location and magnitude of this earthquake are tentatively estimated. Additionally, the lessons learned from the flooding caused by the 1739 Pingluo earthquake are discussed. Recent research on the 1920 Haiyuan earthquake with magnitude 8.5 has revealed valuable new information regarding its occurrence background within the context of global activity. The emergence of Gansu-Ningxia triangle area is the result of deep material transport, where the mechanical relationship is a three-body problem. Analyzing its mode of movement requires consideration of rotation. When assessing seismic conditions, it is crucial to emphasize not only fault zones but also structural differences in deep physical properties.
